Stone Town is 40 minutes from our resort, this World Heritage Site is a labyrinth of narrow streets and local atmosphere. Visit Sultan Seyyid Said’s restored 19th-century palace and the Persian baths he built for his wife, Scheherezade, to bathe after hunting. For Omani history read the memoirs of Arabian Princess Salme, who eloped with a German merchant in 1866. A short boat ride away is the naturally beautiful 800 metre long ’Prison island’ where giant Aldabra tortoises roam free.
Further South is Jozani forest reserve, home to the rare Red Colobus Monkey. Zanzibar is synonymous with the spice trade, tour a plantations and discover the natural origins of familiar culinary ingredients; cinnamon bark, pepper corns on vines and peanuts underground.
